I’m now building something new.

I’ve been thinking hard about using LLMs to make life better in a post-internet world. We’re not ready to speak publicly about the product, but it sits at the intersection of AI and how Australians actually live their lives and consume media.

Here are the reasons you might be interested:

  • We're a post-revenue consumer company working on a problem no one is really thinking about. The product is fun to build, the mission is meaningful, and we are not creating more undifferentiated B2B SaaS. This product could not have existed before LLMs, but it is not your typical startup with a .ai domain name.

  • Founded by two exited founders. Myself, co-founder Eucalyptus (sold to Hims & Hers for $1.6b) and Mark Sproule, co-founder and COO of Reach Robotics (sold to General Oceans in 2023). Between Mark and I, we've built and scaled venture-backed companies, led product, growth and engineering teams, and navigated the full journey from zero to exit. We've done this before and we know what good looks like.

  • We're keeping the team as small as possible for as long as possible, which means this role comes with real ownership, real influence on the product, and substantial equity. We believe in the power of AI to scale the impact of small teams, and we are on the bleeding edge of how we deploy LLMs in our day-to-day.

The role

You'll be the first engineer. You'll work directly with the founders on product direction and own the entire technical stack.

This isn't a "build what the Linear ticket says" job, but it's also not a "disappear into a cave and emerge with something no one asked for" job. We have strong product opinions and a clear roadmap. We want someone who can execute on that vision, push back when something doesn't make sense, and ship fast.

Day-to-day, you'll be building a consumer product where AI is a core component, not a feature bolted on. You'll make architectural decisions that define how the product scales to the nation. You'll work in a tiny team where everything you build matters.

You’ll be in charge of the engineering function, with ownership of future team and strategic decisions.

What we're looking for

  • A strong full-stack engineer who ships real things

  • AI-native in your workflow, you use AI tools daily and think about how AI changes what's possible

  • Genuine interest in community, local life, and how technology can make people's lives better

  • Comfortable in ambiguity, early-stage pace, and wearing multiple hats

  • A curious person, who can apply first-principles thinking and understands computers at low-levels

  • Good writer, with ability to author principles, eval rubric and maintain team markdown files

We don't care about your degree, your previous employer's brand, or how many years of experience you have. We care about what you've built, how you think, and whether you vibe with the mission.

Consideration

  • Equity: substantial. This is a founding team role with a real stake in the outcome and ongoing profits.

  • Salary: $150-200k. we're optimising for people who want ownership and learning, not top-of-market cash.

  • Team: small team, led by two founders who've done it before and want to help you do the best work of your career.

  • Work environment: Studio in Alexandria, Sydney, Australia. Majority of time in-office.

  • Stage: post-revenue, stealth, ready to scale.

Timeframe

We’re ready to build, but can wait 1-2 months for the right person
